I recently had a chance to visit the Tampa based Fitlife Foods at their Fort Lauderdale location, which opened in February 2016. The company began preparing health conscious meals to-go in 2011. Until recently, customers would come into the store located on Federal Highway by Whole Foods and Dicks Sporting Goods to choose pre-packaged meals to take home or eat them in-store. Now, Fitlife offers delivery service and Uber Eats.
Below is an example of 3 meals from their grab-n-go cooler equip with breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and even snacks. Meals come in various sizes and nutrient compositions to cater to various health goals. If you need some direction on which meals would be best for your needs, you can talk to one of the Project U wellness coaches on staff. Keep in mind that these wellness coaches are not Registered Dietitians. However, Fitlife does have a Registered Dietitian oversee the program as a whole. When it comes to your health, it’s important to work with an expert.
Bayou Shrimp & Grits (Gluten Free & Low Carb), Erica’s Sesame Orange Chicken. and Zoodles & Veggie Meatballs (Vegetarian and Low Carb).
I like that anyone can just walk in, choose a meal from their cooler, and heat it up in their store’s “flavor box”. It’s a great option if you are in a hurry and just need a quick bite, without having to resort to fast food. Fitlife falls somewhere along the spectrum of fast-casual dining options – which tend to offer more nutritious options without having to sit down for a full service meal.
Beverage Case
I tried the orange chicken and miso marinated salmon. Both were pretty tasty and calorie controlled since they are pre-portioned. Some things that impressed me about Fitlife is that the menu is chef driven, they use grass fed and grass finished beef, sustainable fish, with seasonal & some local veggies. Unfortunately, I did see high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in one of their desserts (I think it was the carrot cake). I was pretty surprised to see HFCS, but overall, I think that Fitlife is a good option for those who want to eat healthier.
