Non-profit organization FLIPANY (Florida Introduces Physical Activity and Nutrition to Youth) will host its 7th annual “Chefs Up Front” fundraising dinners this August at The Biltmore in Coral Gables and the W Fort Lauderdale in Fort Lauderdale. The epicurean event will present decadent five-course dinners prepared by 10 of South Florida’s most acclaimed chefs. One hundred percent of proceeds will benefit Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters™ Program, which connects families with healthy food by teaching them how to prepare nutritious, tasty meals on a limited budget.

FLIPANY is a Florida partner of Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign. Share Our Strength is a national nonprofit that is working to end child hunger in America through its No Kid Hungry campaign, implemented by FLIPANY at a local level (i.e. Broward and Dade counties).

Registered Dietitians are required to volunteer in the community as part of our eligibility to apply for the dietetic internship. I chose to volunteer with FLIPANY as a nutrition educator for Cooking Matters courses and I’ve experienced first hand how amazing this program truly is. In order for children to be healthy adults, they need to form healthy habits ad learn the value of nutrition during youth and learn cooking skills that will enable them to carry out a healthy lifestyle, and that is exactly what this course does.

The evening, hosted by radio personalities Kimmy B. of Hits 97.3, Julie Guy and Evelyn Curry of 101.5 LITE FM; long-time FLIPANY supporters, will begin with a special reception and silent auction, while hors d’oeuvres and specialty cocktails are served. Following the reception, each chef will prepare signature courses in an intimate dinner setting. An after party will follow, when guests can mingle with each other and the chefs.
